2021 Leadership Conference: Call For Abstracts

National Children’s Alliance will host its annual Leadership Conference virtually June 7-9, 2021. The conference provides continuing education, networking opportunities and sessions on innovative practices for Children’s Advocacy Center leaders. Included in the conference agenda are the organization’s annual membership meeting, plenary sessions, 60 minute workshops, and a virtual Hill Day.

General Information

The National Children’s Alliance is soliciting abstracts for presentation at the 2021 Leadership Conference. Abstracts will be considered if received by February 5, 2021.  The target audience for this conference is composed of administrators, coordinators, and board members of Children’s Advocacy Centers, State Chapters, and multidisciplinary teams.

NCA invites practitioners, administrators, academicians, and community leaders to submit abstracts for 60-minute workshop presentations. Presenters will be expected to offer practical experience to help attendees increase their understanding and skills in the topic area.

In keeping with our tradition of peer education and mentoring, selected presenters are asked to donate their time and expenses as a personal contribution to Children’s Advocacy Centers and the children they serve. If  presenters are interested in attending the full conference, NCA will offer a discounted registration. 

The 2021 Leadership Conference will feature the following workshop tracks:


Advocacy & Communications

Sessions that offer creative public policy ideas, hard-hitting awareness campaigns, and tested communications practices to help CACs solve real-world problems and connect with lawmakers, donors, and the public.

Chapter 

Sessions for Chapter Leaders, Board Members and Staff related to innovative, statewide initiatives, management and leadership as well as membership support and fundraising.  

Research & Innovative Practices

Sessions that provide the latest research and innovative ways to apply it in direct-service practices in child welfare, mental health, medical care, victim advocacy, forensic interviewing, program management and evaluation, and research.

Rural

Sessions for our rural CAC leaders that focus on the unique sustainability and programmatic challenges and opportunities that Rural CACs face.

The Business of Child Advocacy

Sessions that offer actionable information on the business of running a CAC, including content on best practices in management, finance, fundraising, leadership, and administration and management issues. and program innovations.


Important Information

Abstracts will not be considered if all of the guidelines are not followed and if not received by February 5, 2021. Abstracts will not be returned. The NCA Abstract Selection Committee will review all submitted abstracts, score the abstracts, and NCA will select presentations that meet the training needs of attendees and create a well-rounded agenda.

Workshop presenters will receive additional information regarding the virtual conference process in early February.

Session Content

Abstracts that contain the following will be given preference:

Educational Value: Presentations of interest and appeal to CAC/Chapter/MDT Leaders and is an important, innovative contribution to practice, research, or knowledge. It is evidenced-based or supported.

Content: Content that is consistent with NCA’s Standards for Accredited Members.

Emerging Issues: Content that includes issues around cultural competency & equity, prevention, and immigration.

Special Populations: Content geared towards Youth with Sexual Behavior Problems (YSBP), Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC), Child Sexual Abuse Materials, and Military Families.   

Presentation Style:  Presentations that utilize interesting and engaging presentation techniques that promote critical thinking and participation.
