Advanced TF-CBT: Complex Trauma

This live training will take place on October 24, 2022, from 11:00am-5:30pm ET with Amy Hoch, PsyD. This training will provide 5 CE Credits. 

There is a cap of 80 attendees for this training. You must be paid in full to count towards the participation cap. It is strongly recommended you pay with credit card to ensure your spot is secure. TFCBT is an evidence-based treatment for child abuse and has been shown to be effective with complex trauma.  The purpose of this presentation is to provide information on complex trauma as well as specific ways to adapt TFCBT for use with children and adolescents who have a complex PTSD presentation.   Specific emphasis will be placed on how clinicians assess for complex trauma; safety and stabilization techniques; engagement in exposure; and processing grief.  Participants will be encouraged to share case examples and engage in experiential exercises that will enhance their skills.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify at least 2 assessment measures for complex trauma.
  2. Describe at least 4 domains of development that are impacted by complex trauma.
  3. Other than chapters what are two additional ways to facilitate creating a narrative?
  4. Name 2 ways that complex trauma impacts current life?
  5. Name 3 sets of skills that are helpful to teach children and adolescents with complex trauma?

ADV TF-CBT PRE-REQUISITE:

  1. Completion of TF-CBTWeb;
  2. Participation in a live TF-CBT training (two days) conducted by a treatment developer or an approved national trainer (graduate of our TF-CBT Train-the-Trainer Program); or Live training in the context of an approved national, regional, or state TF-CBT Learning Collaborative of at least six months duration in which one of the treatment developers
  3. Participation in follow-up a minimum of nine consultation calls provided by a TF-CBT master trainer.  Active participation in at least nine of the required cluster/consultation calls in the context of an approved TF-CBT Learning Collaborative;
  4. Completion of three separate TF-CBT treatment cases with three children or adolescents with at least two of the cases including the active participation of caretakers or another designated third party (e.g., direct care staff member in a residential treatment facility)
  5. Use of at least one standardized instrument to assess TF-CBT treatment progress with each of the above cases

Amy Hoch

TF-CBT Master Trainer

Rowan University

Amy Hoch, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist in New Jersey and New York. She is the Associate Director of Rowan University’s Wellness Center where she primarily works with young adults who have experienced trauma and engage in risky behavior, including self-injury, suicide attempts, substance abuse, eating disordered behavior and risky sex. She is the Co-Chair for the Sexual Violence Prevention Committee on campus and sat on the Sexual Violence Task Force for the American College Health Association. For the previous 13 years, she worked as a staff psychologist at the Child Abuse Research Education and Service (CARES) Institute at Rowan’s School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, New Jersey. She is a certified trainer in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and provides supervision, consultation and training on trauma treatment. Dr. Hoch is also trained in EMDR and DBT and provides one-day trainings in RODBT.
