Dr. Elizabeth McGuier is a child clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research aims to improve mental health outcomes for children who experience maltreatment. Areas of expertise include 1) Expansion of mental health services into non-traditional settings; 2) Workforce issues and support for front-line providers; 3) Implementation of evidence-based practices in rural areas; 4) Caregiver risk for perpetration of child abuse and neglect; and 5) Outcomes for children involved in public service systems. Dr. McGuier’s research has been supported by the National Institute of Mental Health, Doris Duke Foundation, Society for Research in Child Development, Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention and Treatment, and University of Pittsburgh Center for Interventions to Enhance Community Health. Dr. McGuier holds a BA in Psychology from Harvard University and a PhD from The Pennsylvania State University. She completed clinical training at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and has specialized clinical training in treating youth who have experienced maltreatment (Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy; Alternatives for Families: A Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy) and children and adolescents with problematic sexual behavior.
